A 25-year-old Minneapolis man who was convicted of murder last week in connection with a North Side shooting in 2015 is to be sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with no chance of parole.

A Hennepin County District Court jury deliberated all day Friday before convicting Nigeria L. Harvey of first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Omarr D. Johnson, of Minneapolis, and attempted first-degree murder for injuring Antwan Andrews, 27, also of Minneapolis. Jurors acquitted him of first-degree murder during a robbery and attempted first-degree murder during a robbery.

According to the criminal complaint:

Shortly after midnight on July 27, 2015, Andrews and Johnson were in a car parked at 34th and Morgan Avenues N., where they were waiting for Harvey, who got in the back seat.

Andrews turned to speak to Harvey and was shot in the head. Andrews played dead and heard Johnson get out of the car. Andrews heard more shots and felt Harvey digging through his pants pockets.

Andrews survived the shot to his ear, which lodged in his neck, and he was a key witness in the trial.

Police arrested Harvey the day after the shooting, and he has been jailed ever since.

His criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for aggravated robbery and illegal firearms possession.
