Zagat survey reveals national favorites

The Zagat folks have released yet another dining-out survey, and guess what: McDonald's still a favorite.

The Zagat folks have released yet another survey.

This time around, they've summarized the comments of 6,000 fast-food diners nationwide -- Zagat claims that the group amassed a total of 779,000 chain restaurant meals over 12 months -- asking their opinions on the best in burgers, coffee, salads and more (my favorite quote from a survey participant: "How can a salad have 1,700 calories?" followed closely by, "They even fry the napkins").

The results cannot be described as shocking. Here goes:

Best fast food burger: Five Guys Burger and Fries

Best French fries: McDonald's

Best salads: Panera Bread

Best fried chicken: KFC

Best value menu: McDonald's

Best coffee: Starbucks

Best milkshake: Dairy Queen

Best drive-thru: McDonald's

Most child-friendly: McDonald's

Top 5 most popular fast-food chains (more than 5,000 U.S. locations): Subway, McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Taco Bell

Top service, mega chains: Subway

Top food, mega chains: Wendy's

Top 5 most popular fast-food large chains (up to 5,000 U.S. locations): Five Guys, Panera Bread, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chick-fil-A and In-N-Out Burger

Top service, large chains: Chick-fil-A

Top food, large chains: In-N-Out Burger
