Yoga with a twist

It's time to review the yoga tools of the trade, so grab your yoga mat, towel, foam blocks and a cocktail. A cocktail? That's right, for those who are tempted to belly up to the bar after work instead of hitting the gym, now you can do both thanks to several new "happy hour yoga" classes in the Twin Cities.

But this kind of happy hour isn't likely to leave you with a hangover start to your weekend, because those beloved two-for-ones might be replaced by a sampling of herbal teas or "mocktails," and the half-priced appetizers likely come in the form of healthy, organic snacks. You'll still get the same social perks as letting loose with friends after a stressful week at work.

"It's a way to still be social and be part of a community without having to go to a bar or restaurant," said Jessica Dunne, manager for the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, which now offers Yoga Lounge one Friday night per month. The 75-minute class includes more time for socializing at the beginning and end, a live DJ spinning "ambient chill" music and a sampling of herbal teas at the end. "It's a great way to wind down from the work week and start the weekend off right."

Bottoms up, everyone! As in downward-facing dog, of course.
