• Before the NFL season began, Tony Romo and Jay Cutler announced their retirements and headed for the TV booth. But Cutler was coaxed back into playing when the Dolphins lost Ryan Tannehill in August.
• Once the season started, Carson Palmer, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck and rookie sensation Deshaun Watson landed on IR, too.
• Thirteen teams have used more than one starting QB this season. That includes the Browns, who have used three QBs, started two and botched a trade for another (AJ McCarron).
• One trade that did go through was the Patriots' sending Jimmy Garoppolo to the hapless 49ers.
• Amid all the turbulence, Tom Brady ages gracefully, Carson Wentz and Jared Goff come of age, and Colin Kaepernick remains unemployed.
