Wyoming and the mountains of northern Colorado will have a substantialamount of snow Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The largest accumulations,as much as 6-12 inches, will fall in a band from Lander to Cheyenne. Denverwill be at the southern extent of the snow and will probably have no more thanan inch or two.Several inches of snow will also fall in the mountains of Utah overnight, andit could snow from extreme western Nebraska into the Black Hills of SouthDakota late Tuesday night and Wednesday.
So is this unusual? Not really. The high country in the West is accustomed togetting snow this late in the season. All that is required is for the mid andupper portions of the atmosphere to be quite cold. When this condition is metany storm that passes is likely to bring snow instead of rain.
