Wrong-way crash on Twin Cities highway leaves one driver dead, one hurt

The wreck happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday on Hwy. 52 in Inver Grove Heights.

A crash involving a wrong-way driver Tuesday night in Inver Grove Heights has left one person dead and a second driver injured.

An 80-year-old woman entered Hwy. 52 just before 10 p.m. and was headed south in the northbound lanes near 80th Street in Inver Grove Heights when she collided with a pickup truck heading north, the State Patrol said.

The patrol said Phillis Deboth of Cottage Grove was killed in the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol’s report said.

The pickup truck driver, identified as Rickey Braatz, 60, of Birchwood, Wis., was injured and taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Roads were wet at the time of the crash.
