Wrong-way crash in Lakeville kills 1, critically injures another

An 85-year-old driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Cedar Avenue when he collided with another motorist, police say.

An elderly driver was killed and another motorist critically wounded in a wrong-way crash in Lakeville on Saturday morning.

Police responded to the two-vehicle crash around 11:45 a.m. on Cedar Avenue (County Rd 23), south of the 185th Street intersection. Upon arrival, officers located two drivers – an 85-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman – with serious injuries. Both were taken via ambulance to HCMC, where the man died.

The woman’s current condition was not disclosed.

Preliminary information suggests the 85-year-old man, from Lakeville, was traveling south in the northbound lanes when he collided with the other vehicle, according to Lakeville police.

Authorities say there were no indicators of impairment.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
