A 26-year-old man from Worthington, Minn., was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on an icy road in southwestern Minnesota's Nobles County, according to the State Patrol.

Carlos Cordero Alvarez died at 6:48 a.m. when he lost control of the 2007 Toyota RAV4 he was driving south on Hwy. 91, near 160th Street in Leota Township, and it crossed the centerline and hit a northbound 2011 Ford pickup.

Alvarez died at the scene. His passenger, Marvin Ottoniel Perez Zunun, 33, also of Worthington, was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Worthington with noncritical injuries, as was the driver of the pickup, Steven A. Steffl, 64, of Lake Wilson, Minn.

All three men were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor, the patrol said. Hwy. 91 was covered in snow and ice at the time, the patrol's report said.
