A worker fell to his death through a chicken barn roof at an egg producer west of the Twin Cities, authorities said Sunday.

The victim of the incident Saturday evening at the Sparboe Farms facility near Litchfield was identified as Ruben Rodrigo Esquivel Solis, 23, of Okabena, Minn.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office:

Solis was putting tin atop a chicken barn shortly before 6:30 p.m. when a board broke and he fell 28 feet to the concrete floor below. He was dead at the scene, 65018 Hwy. 12 in Darwin Township.

Solis was employed by Pro-X Builders Inc. of Sioux Falls. Pro-X was contracted to build barns for Litchfield-based Sparboe, one of the nation's leading egg producers.

In 2012, 269 of the 775 construction fatalities in the nation were the result of falls.
