Anne Collier: Women With Cameras (Self Portrait)

If you look closely at the self-portraits on view in the world premiere of this slideshow of 80 35-millimeter photographs, you'll notice that none of them are typical selfies. Indeed, each of these images, which were tossed away and then discovered by Collier, show women photographing themselves sometime between the 1970s and the early 2000s. In a recent talk at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Collier expressed her fascination with the imperfections of these images. "It used to be that you'd drop off film and get it back and there'd be mistakes," she said. Nowadays, the mistake happens after the image is posted.
