A 24-year-old woman was shot and badly wounded early Friday near Powderhorn Park, and police arrested her boyfriend.

Yolanda L. Smith was in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The shooting occurred in the entry to an apartment building shortly before 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of 12th Avenue S., said Police Sgt. William Palmer.

The suspect, a 39-year-old Minneapolis man, was arrested in northeast Minneapolis within about 20 minutes, according to police. He was jailed without bail on suspicion of assault and weapons charges.

His criminal history includes two felony convictions for terroristic threats and another for felony false imprisonment.
