Woman sexually assaulted in Woodbury park

April 24, 2011 at 7:11PM

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 33-year-old woman who was jogging early Saturday in a Woodbury park.

The attack occurred at about 5:30 a.m. along a walking path on the northeast side of Markgrafs Lake, in Markgrafs Lake Park, police said. The park is in northeast Woodbury.

Because it was dark at the time of the attack, the victim was only able to describe the attacker as a male who she did not know, according to Sgt. Neil Bauer.

She suffered physical injuries in the attack and was treated at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury and released.

"We can't remember the last time we had a stranger rape in this area," Bauer said. "It's an extremely rare incident. We want to get the news out that if anyone saw anything unusual at the time, we'd like to hear about it."

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 651-439-9381.
