Minneapolis police say they are unsure how a woman found dead in a city park just west of downtown Saturday afternoon died, and will have to wait for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

Minneapolis city and park police were called to Bryn Mawr Meadows Park around 3:30 p.m. after a person walking in the park spotted the woman's body in a wooded area on the eastern edge of the park, said police spokesman Scott Seroka.

The body was found close to a pedestrian bridge that serves the Luce Line Trail and connects the park on the north side of Interstate 394 near Penn Avenue N. with the North Cedar Lake Regional Trail.

It was not immediately clear who the woman was, how old she was or where she might be from. Minneapolis police were not investigating any missing-persons reports filed in recent days, Seroka said.

Homicide investigators were looking into the death, he said.

"They have lots of folks to talk to," Seroka said.

The body was taken to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office, where an autopsy will be conducted.

Anybody with information is asked to call investigators at 612-692-8477.
