A woman rescued from a burning house in Columbia Heights was "unresponsive" when rescued and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center on Tuesday night, fire officials said.

Her name and condition were not available late Tuesday.

The fire, reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of 44½ Avenue NE., was mostly contained to a back bedroom, and firefighters were able to knock it down fairly quickly, said John Larkin, Columbia Heights assistant fire chief.

Other people in the house managed to get out and call for help, he said.

Nobody else was injured in the blaze.

Firefighters from Fridley and St. Anthony assisted with putting out the fire, which also caused smoke and water damage through the house, Larkin said.
