A woman is dead after her vehicle was struck by another near downtown Minneapolis on Thursday evening, according to Minneapolis police.

Officers responded to a crash just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Park Avenue S. and 15th Street E.

Witnesses told authorities that an SUV was speeding north on Park when it struck a Honda Fit that was traveling eastbound on 15th, according to a news release.

Authorities said the SUV's occupants, two men, fled on foot, but officers found them nearby. Paramedics tended to one of the men, a passenger from the SUV, who was released after speaking with authorities. An ambulance took the SUV's driver to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of noncritical injuries.

The driver of the Honda Fit died at the scene. The Hennepin County medical examiner's office will release her name and cause of death.

The Minneapolis Police Department's traffic investigation unit is investigating.
