A woman was injured in a shooting on Thursday afternoon at a beauty shop in north Minneapolis, according to the victim's family.

The victim, the sister of Zion Baptist Church Pastor Brian Herron, was sitting in a beauty shop near W. Broadway and Irving Avenue N. when gunfire broke out, according to multiple reports. In a Facebook post several hours after the incident, Herron wrote that it was unclear whether his sister was hit by flying glass or bullet fragments.

"[W]e don't know if Yolande was shot, grazed or if it was the glass from the window but she is bleeding from her head they just took her to North Memorial Emergency," wrote Herron, a longtime local activist. He identified the victim as his sister, Yolande Herron Palmore, who is also a pastor in Texas.

The woman was taken to North Memorial Medical Center. A hospital official declined to comment on her condition Thursday afternoon.

The attack came amid a surge in shootings in north Minneapolis in recent months that have caused the number of people wounded by gunfire to more than double, compared with the same period last year.

No further details were immediately available.
