A woman's death in a New Brighton home is being investigated as a murder, and a man known to her was arrested.

Officers were called to an apartment Thursday evening in the 700 block of 1st Avenue NW. and found 28-year-old Katherine M. Simonson inside and not breathing, police said.

Police said the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office was working to determine what led to Simonson's death.

Law enforcement tracked down the 28-year-old suspect Friday at a carwash in the 7100 block of West Broadway in Brooklyn Park, the city where the man lives.

He tried to run from officers but was soon caught and jailed on suspicion of drug possession and third-degree murder.

The man, who has yet to be charged in the death, was handed over in the meantime to authorities in Anoka County, where he awaits sentencing next week on a felony burglary conviction.
