Two people died Saturday afternoon in a crash involving an SUV and a truck on Hwy. 212 in Carver County.

A Pontiac Aztek was eastbound on the highway when it lost control and went sideways on the icy road, according to the Minnesota Highway Patrol. It was hit broadside by a Ford Ranger traveling west, the Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, Matthew Radde, 33, of Excelsior, was taken to Ridgeview Waconia Medical Center with noncritical injuries, the patrol said.

The patrol said that a 29-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy who were passengers in the Aztek died in the crash. A 29-year-old man who was driving that vehicle and a 4-year-old boy were seriously injured, the patrol said.
