Dancing in a dark fairy tale

Despite the name, Ballet Preljocaj is quite contemporary. Led by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, the French dance company is known for a visceral, provocative repertoire, mining fairy tales for subversion and exploring apocalyptic themes from Shakespeare and the Bible. With "La Fresque (The Painting on the Wall)," Preljocaj adapts a disturbing Chinese fairy tale for a show featuring balletic abstractions and a dramatic set, all accompanied by an electro-fusion score by French composer Nicolas Godin.
