OSHKOSH, Wis. — A veteran instructor from Belleville has been identified as the skydiver who died in an accident.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office says 55-year-old Paul Olsen died Tuesday during a tandem jump with a student at Lake Butte des Morts. The cause of death has not been determined.

The sheriff's office says Olsen was a master instructor who had logged 5,000 jumps. He was jumping with a student through Skydive Adventure in Omro when sudden strong winds at the outset of severe weather pushed him and his student off course and into the lake after a 10,000-foot jump.

The student swam to shore for help about 12:30 p.m. and was not injured. Olsen's body was found five hours later.

Olsen also worked for other skydiving operations in the area.
