MADISON, Wis. — A hotline for reporting waste, fraud and abuse in Wisconsin state government has received 201 tips over the past two years.

The Legislative Audit Bureau reported Friday that the hotline also received another 35 tips not related to state agencies or programs. Since its inception in 2008, more than 700 reports have come in.

The Audit Bureau says tips cover a wide variety of topics including the use of parking fees and fines at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, difficulty filing unemployment insurance claims and welfare fraud.

Republican co-chairs of the Legislature's Audit Committee say the hotline is a great resource for the state and provides a valuable oversight to prevent misuse of taxpayer money.
