MADISON, Wis. — A former legislator says he'll run to retain his seat as a Wisconsin appeals court judge in next spring's election.

Democrat Gary Sherman served in the state Assembly from 1998 until 2010, when then-Gov. Jim Doyle appointed him to replace retiring Judge Burnie Bridge on the 4th District Court of Appeals. He took the bench in May of that year.

Sherman holds a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a past president of the Wisconsin Bar Association.

The election for his position is set for April.
