Government weather forecasters issue winter weather advisories that can beconfusing. Here are the most important ones and what they mean.A winter storm watch is meant to advise of a possible winter storm 24 to 48hours away in time.
As the start time of the storm nears and details become clearer, a winter stormwarning may be issued. This would warn of hazardous weather such as icing andheavy snow within 12 to 24 hours.
The ominous words, "blizzard warning", would be posted whenever forecastscalled for at least three hours of 35-mph (or greater) winds and very lowvisibility (say, 1/4 mile or less).
