So much for the snow drought in Denver. As of Thursday afternoon, the snowstormhad gotten under way in the Mile High City, and it will persist into Fridaymorning. At Denver International Airport, 6 inches seems to be the rightnumber, and 10 inches will probably accumulate in the nearby foothills. The winter storm will also impact southern Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota andwestern Minnesota with snow and blowing snow. This will create dangerousblizzard conditions, and some roads will be closed.

The storm coming through Colorado and onto the Plains Thursday and Thursdaynight is not to be confused with another storm that has been dumping snow allday from South Dakota into northern Minnesota. What we have here is a one-twopunch with the second storm coming right on the heels of the first. Thesnowfall map shown below takes into account snowfall from both thesesystems.

I should also mention that the air coming down the backside of the stormcomplex is exceedingly cold with temperatures in the single digits over a broadarea. In Billings, Mont., Thursday afternoon, it never got above 5 degrees, andnorth of there it stayed below zero all day. A sizable chunk of that frigid airis coming south, and western Nebraska and northern Colorado could spend most ofFriday in the single digits.
