Winter getaways within reach

Reader Emily is asking for recommendations for short winter road trip ideas

January 20, 2011 at 5:25PM

From the Cribsheet in-box, Emily G. has this inquiry: We are planning a mid-winter road trip, along the lines of a distance like Duluth or Eau Claire. We'd love to find a hotel that has a family-friendly pool. We don't need the full-on waterpark hotel (our kids just turned 2 and 4), but a hotel pool that is zero-depth and/or has other young-kid-friendly features would be great. We've stayed at a hotel in Winona that has a zero-depth pool with animal slides and climbing sculptures ... I just can't seem to find anything like it at other destinations within road-trip range! I'd love to hear some ideas too. Readers, as always, turning it over to you for advice and suggestions.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
