Winter finches at the feeders

Purple Finches, Pine Siskins

Winter finches appeared at our feeders (Orono) yesterday, Nov. 5. Two Purple Finches, above, were joined by a pair of Pine Siskins, below. The finches fed on black oil sunflower seeds. I bought niger thistle for the siskins and the neighborhood American Goldfinches.
