When we announce the "Oh, You Turkey!" art contest on Thanksgiving Day, young artists throughout the region sharpen their crayons, their scissors and their creativity. This year — the contest's 37th year — was no different. We received thousands of submissions, which were judged by students from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The judges applauded the enthusiasm and imagination of each submission. It was hard work choosing only nine winners, but they did it. Here are their selections:

Ages 4 and under

1st place: Vance Ottenbreit, 4, Minnetrista.

2nd place: Macy Hauglie, 3½, Anoka.

3rd place: Jack Loch, 18 months, Albertville, Minn.

Ages 5 through 8

1st place: Chance Kopp, 7, Maple Grove.

2nd place: Talia Segal, 8, Minnetonka.

3rd place: Torque Carlson, 6, Bloomington.

Ages 9 through 12

1st place: Sylvia Pulkrabek, 10, Minneapolis.

2nd place: Nixie Trierweiler, 11, Minneapolis.

3rd place: Emily Dusosky, 12, St. Michael, Minn.

This year, not-so-young artists also got into the act. To see how 101-year-old Rachel Kulpa and others in the unofficial, over-12-years-of-age category dressed their turkeys, go to startribune.com/variety.
