Scarpetta Rosato 2017

The chef and wine guy at my favorite Italian restaurant, Frasca, in Boulder, Colo., have branched out with an Italian winery, Scarpetta. Not surprisingly, the wines are stellar. The Scarpetta Rosato 2017 ($14) is springtime in a bottle, with heady floral and fruit aromas and refreshing cherry-berry flavors. There's a wee bit of oomph on the finish — it's 100 percent Nero D'Avola, a sturdy varietal — and it's mouthwatering enough to leave anyone longing for more. And for more of the Scarpetta wines, which include pinot grigio and prosecco that will change the minds of anyone pooh-poohing those categories. Fried foods, salty appetizers, ceviche and grilled Vidalia onions are among the swell pairing options.

Available at Vinifera, Thomas, 1010 Washington, Cork Dork and Wine Thief.
