Le Lolo de l'Anhel Corbieres 2016

I loves me some carignan, one of the world's great blending grapes, and southern France is a font of swell renditions. Exhibit A: the Le Lolo de l'Anhel Corbieres 2016 ($16), laced with blue, black and purple fruit plus regionally characteristic meaty and peppery notes. This mix of carignan, syrah and grenache is spicy but smooth, with lovely texture on the midpalate and finish, the rare wine at this price point that's earthy and elegant. With our long roasting season, this red will prove food-friendly over the next few months.

Available at Liberty Village, Cork Dork, Excelsior Vintage, South Lyndale, Stinson and Cellars (Plymouth).
