Wine of the Week: Batan de Salas Somentano Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnays come in all manner of flavor profiles. For those who like rich fruit (but not too) and a hearty but clean mouthfeel, it's hard to do better than the Batan de Salas Somontano Chardonnay 2015 ($15). Lovely aromas of stone fruit portend the flavors to come, a mouthful of goodness that's pristine and balanced on the midpalate and finish. Emanating from the Spanish region of Aragon just west of Barcelona, this lush white is a harbinger of spring. As such, it's a great match for light seafood and chicken dishes, but it's bold and acidic enough to play well with mildly spicy ethnic foods.
