Wine of the Week: 2014 Chateau Signoret

2014 Chateau Signoret

I'm pretty sure I've never had an $11 Bordeaux red as good as the 2014 Chateau Signoret. Or an $11 merlot. This gem offers up a bright, sunshiny red-fruit nose, but some darker fruit joins in the festivities on the palate, along with a swell touch of spice. It's super-smooth with spot-on grip, and the picture of harmony on the ample finish. This is the kind of wine from small family operations that we're seeing a lot more of in the Twin Towns as local importers comb the world's vinous regions for great value. Mission accomplished. Hope you haven't put away the grill, because this robust red is a great match for steaks, burgers, brats, ribs, etc. But it'll do just fine with roasted meats and winter squash.

Available at France 44, Thomas, Solo Vino, Cork Dork, Kowalski's Shoreview, McDonald's, Sentyrz, Stinson and Wine Thief.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
