Wine of the week: 2013 Cellers Can Blau 'Bula'

November 14, 2015 at 8:00PM

One of the reasons winemakers love to make blends is the opportunity to draw from different grapes and different soils. The 2013 Cellers Can Blau "Bula" ($15) is culled from three distinct vineyards in Spain's Montsant region: mazuelo grown in sandy clay, syrah in chalky loam and garnacha in slate. No wonder this rich, robust red has such depth and complexity. Perfectly ripe fruit provides delish dark-berry flavors, which linger well after the wine leaves the palate and heads down the gullet. This earthy red plays beautifully with fall's hearty dishes as well as grilled meats, which remain a staple in our seemingly endless autumn.

Available at Haskell's, Whole Foods (Minneapolis & Maple Grove), Wine Republic, France 44, Stinson, Sunfish, Wine Thief, Zipp's and 1st Grand.
