Wine
Riesling will gain a foothold in these parts if we start seeing more wines like the 2011 Rudi Wiest Mosel Riesling. At $14, this clean, refreshing white is a great introduction to what Germany is doing with this grape: the purity of ripe fruit (peach and more), the mouthwatering minerality, the fresh finish. It's a great aperitif (especially with just 10.5 percent alcohol) and super-versatile at the table, with most white meats and spicy Asian dishes providing swell accompaniment. Available at Hennepin Lake, Haskell's, North Loop, South Lyndale and Byerly's.
