A 68-year-old Windom man was killed in a broadside crash Friday afternoon after colliding with a semitrailer truck in Cottonwood County.

Mountain Lake and Windom police, along with the Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene off Hwy. 60 and 570th Avenue around 1 p.m.

The semi was headed south on 570th Avenue, preparing to turn east on Hwy. 60, according to State Patrol records. After crossing the westbound lanes and stopping at the median, the semi was waved along by another driver. While making the turn, the semi hit a 2003 Buick LeSabre heading east in the right-hand lane.

The LeSabre's driver, Roger Thomas Richardson, later died at Windom Area Hospital as a result of his injuries. His passenger, Loretta J. Richardson, 66, had injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash occurred about 10 miles from their family home.

The 23-year-old semi driver was uninjured.
