Wind Driven Snow Squalls in Great Lakes

December 27, 2009 at 8:25PM

Snow belts to the lee of the Great Lakes will be subjected to occasionalblizzard conditions the next couple of days. A very cold blast of air willtrigger bands of very heavy lake-effect snow that will dump 1 to 2 inches ofsnow in under an hours time. That combined with howling winds will createlocalized white outs that will reduce visibility to under 100 yards. The wind driven bursts of snow and drifting snow will force the closure ofcertain stretches of highway. No doubt Interstate-90, between Cleveland andSyracuse, will be heavily impacted by the storms which will reach peak Mondaynight and Tuesday morning.

The solid white areas on the map indicate where we believe the squalls will bethe worst.
