Williams driver Susie Wolff to take part in Formula 1 testing session at Silverstone

LONDON — Susie Wolff will gain further experience in Williams' Formula One car this week when she takes part in testing at Silverstone.

The Scot joined Williams as a development driver in April 2012, becoming the fourth woman in a decade to drive an F1 car.

In-season testing has been allowed at Silverstone from Wednesday to Friday to allay safety fears after concerns about burst tires at the British Grand Prix earlier this month.

Wolff says "it's going to be a big challenge but the most important thing is to do a solid and consistent job and ... prove I am at the level to compete on a day such as this."

Wolff's husband, Toto, was an executive and shareholder with Williams but has since left for Mercedes.
