Former Twin Cities music writer Will Hermes has a new book due Nov. 8. In the meantime, test your 1970s music savvy by identifying the musicians in the bookjacket illo by Mark Alan Stamaty.They include Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Laurie Anderson.

The book, "Love Goes to Buildings on Fire: FIve Years in New York that Changed Music Forever," goes from 1973 to 1977, and talks about great acts in rock, punk, jazz, disco, salsa, hip hop, classical and soul.

Hermes, who was music editor at City Pages during the 1990s, will appear at the Minneapolis Central Library Nov. 10 for a free Talk of the Stacks event. It starts at 7 p.m. with an after party starting at 8 p.m. Seats are first-come-first-served.
