Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is usually a nervous guy before games so it was not surprising to see him pacing around the sidelines before today's game against Arizona. At one point, Wilf stopped in front of two reporters, turned around and said, "Don't write us off."
The Vikings are 2-5 as reports swirl that coach Brad Childress' job is in jeopardy. A team spokesman said Wilf not have no comment about the situation but he did stop to make a brief statement that had nothing to do with Childress' job security.
"The big thing is to win this game and to be crowned a division champion and we are going to fight our asses off," he said before walking away.
Childress took the field with his team during warm-ups and was loudly booed, which came as no surprise. He then walked onto the field and shook hands with Zygi and Mark WIlf. Interestingly, earlier in the warmups Wilf had gone out on the field and given a hug to wide receiver Percy Harvin, who had a heated argument with Childress on Friday that ended with wide receivers coach George Stewart physically leading Harvin away from the practice field and into the weight room area.
Wilf did not comment last week about Childress' decision to cut Randy Moss without telling Wilf first. That move started in motion a long week in which Wilf spent two days at Winter Park talking to team officials and players about a variety of subjects, including Childress.
Childress was not introduced today as the Vikings took the field. He usually is but this time the Vikings elected just to introduce the team without mentioning the coach.
