Wilde Roast offers a sneak Peep

Wilde Roast Cafe gives viewers a sneak "Peep" (well, Peeps) into their new Riverplace location.

As a part of the announcement of its new Riverplace location, Wilde Roast Cafe has staged an amusing peep show in the windows at its soon-to-be riverfront location (it's the former Picosa).

Correction: Peeps show. Co-owners Tom DeGree and Dean Schlaak are entertaining Main St. SE. pedestrians with a pair of small-scale dioramas composed of Peeps, those scary seasonal marshmallow treats. I'm not exactly sure what the scenes have to do with their seven-year-old cafe's move, but does it really matter?

Here's a peep. Sorry, peek.

Peeps at peace, and Peeps at war?

Here's the view -- with lots of reflection (sorry) -- from the street.

And why settle for factory-made Peeps when you can buy locally made -- and better-tasting -- versions?

Lucia's To Go is carrying hand-made Peeps-inspired marshmallow treats, for a limited time only.

And Very Prairie's Susan Dietrich is once again turning out her fabulous versions of marshmallow chicks, in toasted coconut and chocolate variations. "Pure little guys, with no corn syrup," she says. Sales start Friday at Sugar Sugar in south Minneapolis.
