The Wild signed first-round pick Matt Dumba on Thursday. The defenseman, who turns 18 on Wednesday, will return to Red Deer of the Western Hockey League if he doesn't make the team this fall.

Dumba's contract is for three years and worth $2.75 million if he plays in the NHL. He was the seventh overall pick in last month's draft.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Calgary had 20 goals and 37 assists in 69 games for Red Deer last season and was captain of Team Canada's under-18 team. He is a prime candidate for the Canadian junior national team this fall.
