More cold weather and storms can be expected in the days ahead. That's nosurprise considering the large temperature differences that exist this time ofyear. Just today while it was snowing and 30 degrees at Binghamton, N.Y., thetemperature in Pittsburgh, Pa., was in the middle 60s.These large air mass differences translate into massive weight imbalances whichis what ultimately puts the atmosphere into motion. That's why March and Aprilare often very stormy times of the year.
Wednesday, a winter storm impacted a large area from the Midwest to NewEngland, and from New York eastward, the storm will keep going overnight.
Thursday, there will be a break in the action, then another storm will takeshape over the nation's midsection on Friday. That disturbance will spread snowfrom Iowa and Illinois eastward to Ohio and Pennsylvania, though it probablywon't be a big storm. To the south, there will be rain and heavy thunderstormsfrom the lower Mississippi Valley to the Carolinas.
While all this storminess is going on, a large amount of cold air will remainanchored across a large area from the northern Great Plains to theNortheast.
