ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild have added a couple of players to the organization with state connections.

The Wild made seven picks in Sunday's draft, though only one came in the top 80 selections. For the first time in franchise history, they didn't have a first-rounder, due to the trade that brought Jason Pominville from Buffalo.

In the fifth round, the Wild selected 6-foot-4 defenseman Carson Soucy, who is bound for Minnesota Duluth. He played last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Then in the sixth round, the Wild made center Avery Peterson the 11th native of Minnesota to be drafted by the club. Peterson starred for Grand Rapids High School and will play in the USHL this season.

The Wild picked a franchise-record four defensemen among their seven selections.
