The wife of a Richfield man who was fatally stabbed Sunday morning has been charged with second-degree murder.

Amreya Rahmeto Shefa, 40, was charged by the Hennepin County attorney's office Tuesday in the death of Habibi Gessese Tesema, 48.

According to the criminal complaint, Richfield police were called to a home in the 7300 block of 12th Avenue S. early Sunday after a 911 call. After coaxing the couple's two small children out of hiding and removing them from the home, officers found blood in the kitchen, on doors and in a hall, then found Tesema lying in the bathtub as the water ran. He was covered in blood and had multiple cuts, and there were two knives in the tub.

Officers tried to resuscitate him, but paramedics declared him dead at 5:10 a.m.

Shefa was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment of a cut on her hand.

According to the complaint, she initially told police that her husband was stabbed accidentally after he and she had struggled with a knife. The document said she later admitted that she stabbed him in a confrontation after he suggested bringing another woman into their bedroom and using a sexual device.
