Rainfall will lead to localized flooding across South Africa early this week.Extreme heat in the north will clash with cool, Atlantic air from the south tospark thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will be widespread today through Wednesday;1-3 inches is expected in many areas. Locally higher amounts are possible.
Rainfall across South Africa has been above normal since the beginning ofOctober. This will make South Africa more susceptible to flooding.
The rainfall is not all bad news. South Africa is a major producer of corn andwheat, so the rain will be good for farmers who often suffer droughts duringthe Southern Hemisphere's warm season.
Despite the rain, temperatures will be very hot across the northern tier of thecountry. Highs above 100 degrees will be a daily occurrence through the end ofthe week for some towns.
