Why Is the Moon Looking Unusually Large?

The full moon through this Saturday will be the largest and brightest of theyear. This is also called the Wolf Moon, which will be 14 percent wider and 30percent brighter than a typical full moon.The moon's orbit around Earth is not a circle, but an ellipse, with one side50,000 km closer to Earth than the other. The point of closest approach iscalled the "perigee," and that is where the moon will be Friday night throughSaturday morning.
