Whooping Crane shot

The only female to successfully nest in Wisconsin

December 10, 2009 at 5:59PM

From Matt Mendenhall, associate editor of the magazine "Birder's World".

An adult Whooping Crane in the eastern migratory population was killed recently in western Indiana. It was the only successful breeding female in the Wisconsin-nesting flock. A $2,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the shooter. I've written more on our blog: http://bit.ly/4XyQro

The "Birder's World" Web address is www.birdersworld.com/

(The bird was in migration to its wintering grounds in Florida.)
