This was going to be White House In-Town Travel Pool Report #4, but it was not needed.

In-Town Travel Pool Report #3 chronicled President Obama's departure for Camp David at 3:47 p.m., which put a lid on the day's official activities.

(Reports 1 and 2 dealt with the president's address at the Washington Navy Yard to discuss jobs for veterans). Today was Hot Dish's turn at pool duty, a burden we share with other regional reporters who cover D.C. POTUS (President of the United States in White House lingo) was whisked away on Marine One in a windstorm of debris and ducks flying every which way from the South Lawn. Joining Obama were White House adviser Velerie Jarrett, body man Reggie Love, and official photographer Pete Souza. Thus ended a long day spent mostly in the back seat of a press van that makes up part of the president's motorcade. There's no other assignment that sounds more glamorous but which produces more unremitting boredom than White House pool duty. Except when Marine One lifts off with the Washington Monument in the background. As one Rose Garden bystander said, "that's cool by definition."

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
