A White Bear Lake police officer involved in a head-on crash with a civilian's vehicle early today is out of the hospital and recovering at home from minor injuries, said Capt. Randy Johnson.

The officer was on routine patrol around 3:40 a.m. when a woman making a left turn from westbound County Road 96 to southbound Birch Lake Boulevard collided with the officer's squad car, Johnson said. The officer was headed east on County Rd. 96 at the time of the crash.

Johnson said the male officer, who has been with the department for two to three years, and the driver of the SUV, were taken to Regions Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"The good news is that this is a motor vehicle accident, and both had just minor injuries."

The State Patrol is investigating.
