Where should I buy my next mattress?

Readers ask me "Where to get a new mattress" more often than almost any other question. So let me ask you a question, "Have you bought a green mattress lately? Tell me about it.

My answer about where to buy a mattress depends on what you want to spend. If you want a bargain basement deal, I'll send you to Dave's Furniture World (952-890-6095). Owner Dave Smittkamp gets closeouts, overstocks and comfort exchanges and discounts the mattresses of varying brands about 20 to 50 percent less than department store sale prices. Queen sets, for example, are between $400 and $650. Dave works by appointment only since he closed his Bloomington store, but he opens the store once a month. The next weekend he's open is September 19-20, but appointments can be made anytime.

In the October issue of Consumer Reports, the mattresses from Original Mattress Factory and Costco won the top two spots. Local company Select Comfort was number 6 in the list of 14.

Anyone bought the latest trend, a green mattress? I'm curious how you like it. Let me know.
