WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

What is it? Pertussis is a disease that affects the lungs. Pertussis bacteria are spread through the air in droplets from coughing or sneezing.

How can you prevent it? Officials say the best prevention is for children to be fully vaccinated on time and for adolescents and adults to get a booster shot.

How many cases? In Minnesota, 282 cases have been reported so far this year.
